Mount Diablo is located in the 20,000-plus-acre Mount Diablo State Park and with its peak at 3849 ft. Mt. Diablo is unique in its own way as it can look like a double pyramid with North Peak (its peak at 3557 ft) being the other half of the double pyramid. For an up-close view from the ground, visit the Diablo Foothills Regional Park. This 1060-acre park has tons of trails, seasonal wildflowers and animal & birdlife.
Also while you’re at the Diablo Foothills Park, check out the Castle Rock Recreation Area for its Castle Rock formations in Pine Canyon. A heads up, this area is closed from February through July to protect the peregrine falcons.
22. Catch views from the top of Mt. Diablo at Mt. Diablo State Park

You can also go to the top of Mt. Diablo through Mount Diablo State Park. And the best part is that you can also access it by car or bike (you don’t have to hike all the way up, phew!). You can hike to the summit and camp there as well.
To access the summit via road, you can drive in either from North Gate Road or South Gate Road. Both gates ask for a $10 vehicle entrance fee. They accept cash or checks and only credit or debit cards if the kiosk is open. The gates open at 8 AM and close at sunset so plan to be out of the park by then or you might be locked in.

The Civic Park has so many things to offer! It’s got 2 playgrounds, a gazebo, library, public art, gardens and a community center with art programs. Also look for the ‘Hand of Peace’ monument located near Walnut Creek Library. The monument was created by Beniamino Bufano, an Italian-born artist who had cut off his right index finger and mailed it to President Woodrow Wilson. He did this as a peaceful protest against 1917’s World War I. (He had accidentally cut it off but legend has it that it was on purpose.)
Also ever wondered if there was a ‘Walnut Creek’ in Walnut Creek? Walk along the creek along Creek Walk trail at this park. There’s also a few gardens that inhabit about 130 species of California native plants and more than 25 species of butterflies since 1999. It’s open daily from 7 AM to sunset and offers free monthly ranch tours and open houses to tour the whole ranch. This historic ranch is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
