During our 5-day trip to San Diego, we explored the lively Mission Beach area and tried out some amazing eateries. One standout spot for us was Miss B’s Coconut Club, which we highly recommend. 

From casual beachside bites to elegant dining experiences, we’ve sampled a variety of places suitable for all tastes.

1. Miss B’s Coconut Club

Miss B’s Coconut Club is a laid-back hangout in Mission Beach, offering Caribbean-inspired fare and tropical cocktails. 

The open-air bar has a vibrant interior which makes it a fun spot for couples and groups of friends. There’s plenty of outdoor seating with long tables.

We ordered plates to share so we could try lots of the dishes. The tacos were amazing and we’d never had sweet shrimp before.

This spot is best for those who love trying new flavors and enjoying a lively atmosphere. Miss B’s has received rave reviews but be prepared for somewhat small portions on some dishes and difficult parking.

We ordered a selection off their menu to share and highly recommend you try:

  • Plantain Coconut Shrimp” – house-battered plantain-coconut shrimp, sweet chili pineapple mojito sauce
  • “Caribbean Taco Plate” with jerk chicken: topped with chipotle – mango salsa, sautĂ©ed corn, & purple cabbage, queso fresco, chimichurri, served with sofrito rice, black beans and limes 
  • “Jerk Chicken Plate” – jerk seasoned half chicken with mango chutney and chimichurri. Served with Mangu (smashed plantains) and 2 plates of seasonal vegetables.

    2. The Mission – Mission Beach

    This popular eatery in Mission Beach serves Asian-Latin fusion fare with an international twist. They are also a top place to head for a laid-back breakfast.

    The interior is cozy and inviting,  with a friendly ambience making it ideal for families and couples. 

    What makes this place unique is its creative menu and delightful fusion of flavors. It’s a must-visit for anyone who loves trying something different. 

    Portion sizes are generous and they also serve up excellent coffee. However, some dishes can be pricey and parking may be a challenge.

    3. Dockside 1953

    Dockside 1953 is a waterfront restaurant that has some of the most stunning bayside views. Head here in the evening, and choose one of the outdoor tables with ambient overhead lighting. 

    It’s a great spot for enjoying lunch and dinner. The spacious outdoor seating, complete with heaters, makes it comfortable even on chilly evenings. 

    It’s ideal for couples and families and has a good kids’ menu with fun mocktails like the Shirley Temple. 

    There’s also plenty of parking nearby. The downside is that this restaurant can be pricey and wait times might be long during peak hours – the view alone is worth it.

    4. Olive Cafe

    It’s ideal for families and casual brunch dates, the friendly staff and inviting atmosphere make it a favorite spot with locals as well.

    The menu serves a variety of options for people after healthier breakfast alternatives like the yogurt or acai bowls.

    A couple of downsides are that parking can be challenging, and it gets crowded on weekends.

    The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

    However, be prepared for slightly unusual opening hours at 11am or 12pm depending on the day. It closes at 9 pm, and potentially long wait times. It’s also on the higher end for prices.

    This old-time counter-serve chain is a must-visit for anyone craving down-home Mexican fare. With a history dating back to the 1950s, it’s located conveniently across from Belmont Park.
