Fancy cake in the sunlight at Azucar in Ocean Beach San Diego, with beautifully toasted meringue on top of a rich cake

Is Azucar in Ocean Beach San Diego is worth visiting?

We had heard rave reviews about this place, so naturally, we wanted to check it out for ourselves. We shared a CafĂ© Cubano and the Divina dessert cake during our visit.

The CafĂ© Cubano was rich and robust and paired perfectly with the cake’s sweet, moist white chocolate layers. The passion fruit curd and raspberries added a tangy burst, while the toasted marshmallow frosting was the ultimate finishing touch.

    Azucar‘s reviews

“Absolutely loved this place. The coffee was really good and the service was excellent but wow – the pastries look delicious! I had the cheese roll and it may be my favorite breakfast pastry ever! I just wish I took a photo of it to share! Highly recommend!” – (source)

“I will definitely admit that I’m a food snob; living in NYC it’s only natural. This place was so delicious, we ended up ordering more food to take home. The scones are amazing–This is what a scone should taste like!! The salt/oatmeal cookies are also lovely and lacy. The cinco tres leches was too sweet. The Divina is also wonderful.”  – (source)
