Dining At Rustic Root San Diego

Rustic Root is all about their take on New American Comfort Food. They feature classic dishes rooted in tradition, including regional dishes from around the country, all reimagined with fresh and local ingredients and the chef’s modern flair.
For my birthday eve dinner, we decided to try out this place and ended up sharing the Firecracker Shrimp, the Mary’s Free Range Half Chicken with garlic puree, and a side of roasted Brussels sprouts.
I’m usually not big on shrimp, but this was hands down the best firecracker shrimp we’ve ever tasted, and that sauce? Chef’s kiss.
The chicken was cooked to perfection, and we couldn’t resist dipping it into the red wine demi glaze because it was just that good! And the garlic puree – it was like creamy mashed potatoes infused with rich, herby flavors.

The lunch section includes items like egg sandwiches served with romaine lettuce on a brioche bun with parmesan fries.
For dinner, you can enjoy a variety of tasty side dishes including the delicious mix of shaved parmesan and white truffle oil Idaho Truffle Fries, or try the Cheddar and Roasted Chile Cornbread with spiced honey, garlic, and herb butter.
For mains, Bone and Pork Chop or the “RFC” Rustic Fried Chicken are popular choices with tender meats coming accompanied by a range of glazes and sides. They also do a great range of salads which come with a blend of greens, pine nuts, and fragrant basil leaves.

What’s It Like To Eat At Rustic Root San Diego

If you’re dining at Rustic Root in San Diego, expect an inviting and lively atmosphere that captures a fun NYC feeling and the vibrant energy you’d find there. The interior has long wooden tables and benches with soft cushions, creating an intimate yet trendy vibe with dim lighting that sets the mood.
The second-floor rooftop provides a fantastic spot for people-watching and views of the city, and for chilly nights, has the added draw of cozy fire pit booths as the evening sets in.
It’s relaxed during the daytime, but the ambiance comes alive in the evening, offering a lively setting for party bookings with a diverse range of music, from slow jams to hip hop, reggaeton, and more.
As for the dining experience, we found the service is top-notch, with friendly hostesses and wait staff, with servers who consistently ensure your satisfaction. We were seated almost immediately after we had made a reservation earlier.
One thing to note is that street parking can be challenging to find. We recommend utilizing a parking garage or opting Uber or Lyft.
We parked at Horton Plaza Parking Garage which was a 5-minute walk from Rustic Root. We looked for street parking for 10-15 minutes and then ended up parking in this garage. We had to pay flat rate of $20.
While that’s expensive for parking, we had a bit of peace of mind that it was in a secure and gated parking garage.
