A trendy coffee shop with wooden shelving displays stocked with books, candles, home goods, and a small selection of T-shirts, with a cozy and curated vibe. A decorated Christmas tree glows softly in the background.

Communal Coffee shows up in every San Diego travel guide and Instagram feed, but is it actually worth your time or just a backdrop for influencers? With locations scattered across the city and Oceanside, this place has built a serious reputation. We hit up the North Park spot to see if it lives up to the buzz or falls flat once the filter is off. The space had the look – plants, cozy corners, and all the aesthetic touches – but we were here for more than just vibes. Here is what really stood out and what might have missed the mark.

Communal Coffee’s menu

If you have dietary requirements and looking for a great selection of gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options, then you’ll find plenty of choices on the menu.

Firstly, they have an excellent range of coffees, which include their Batch Brew, and Cold Brew. For something a little different, check out their signature Sweet Mint Cold Brew for a more refreshing drink.

They also have a good selection of cafe classics including Americanos and Cappuccino as well as non-coffee-based drinks.

They also make seasonal drinks to keep their menu exciting, with a changing menu depending on the time of year. At our time of visit, popular options were the Coconut Cream Cold Brew and the Blueberry Earl Grey Latte.

Food is served throughout the day.

Popular options for gluten-free are the Acai Bown, Communal Avocado, or GF Turkey Pesto Sandwich.

If you follow a vegetarian diet then try the Blueberry Lavender Toast, Alioli Avocado Bagel Sandwich, or Sweet Potato Hash Burrito.

For vegans, we suggest trying the Soyrizo Burrito, Plant-Based Frittata Sandwich, or VO Communal Chilaquiles.
