Easter weekend in California is packed with family events, and a lot of them go way beyond a basic egg hunt. You’ve got theme parks doing full spring celebrations, free community festivals, mountain events, and local traditions that have been around for decades.
If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, here are some of the best Easter events happening across California.
1. Spring Eggstravaganza, Sacramento: April 4-5
Fairytale Town’s Spring Eggstravaganza is a good pick if you want a full Easter outing instead of a quick egg hunt. Kids can find eggs on the lawn, take photos with Peter Cottontail from 10am-2pm, and catch “Bunny Boot Camp” performances at 11:30am and 1pm. It runs both days from 10am-3pm, and it’s a special ticketed event, so book ahead.
2. Kiwanis 42nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Citrus Heights: April 4
This free event at Rusch Community Park is one of those classic community egg hunts that keeps it simple and fun. Along with the hunt, families can expect sack races, music, face painting, tug-o-war, and fishing booths. The event runs from 9am-12pm, with timed egg hunts by age group starting at 9:30am, so showing up early is worth it.
3. Bunny Weekend, Oakland: April 4-5
Children’s Fairyland always does holiday events in a fun way, and Bunny Weekend feels more like a full spring festival than a basic Easter stop. It includes Fairyland’s “Eggs-change,” cookie decorating, crafts, butterfly observation, live performances, baby goat meet-and-greets, and seasonal treats. It runs from 10am-4pm both days and is included with general admission.
4. Eggster Festival, Berkeley: April 4
Eggster is one of the best free Easter events in the Bay Area if you want something bigger than just an egg hunt. It takes over UC Berkeley’s Campanile Esplanade from 10am-3pm with activity booths, performances, and egg hunts, and this year’s theme is “Dinosaur Eggscavation.” It’s run by UC Berkeley students and mixes the Easter fun with hands-on learning, which makes it feel a little different from the usual park event.
5. Egg Hunt & Bonnet Parade, Hayward: April 4
Hayward’s annual egg hunt at Kennedy Park is one of those old-school Easter events that still feels very local and very cute. The event runs from 9am-11am, all egg hunts begin at 10:15am sharp, and the Bonnet Parade follows right after for kids 6 and under.
6. Easter Celebration, Gilroy Gardens: April 3-5
Gilroy Gardens is doing a full Easter weekend celebration with more than 150,000 eggs spread across 3 days. Kids 12 and under can join free egg hunts with age-based time slots at 12pm, 1:30pm, and 3pm, and the whole thing is included with park admission or membership. Between the gardens, rides, and photo ops, we recommend this event if you want to turn Easter into a theme park trip.
7. Easter & Golden Egg Hunt, Palisades Tahoe: April 5
If you want an Easter event that feels a little different, Palisades Tahoe is doing one on the mountain. The Easter Bunny will be skiing around handing out chocolate eggs, and the Golden Egg Hunt returns with a 2026-27 season pass hidden somewhere on the mountain. It’s free and runs all day on Easter Sunday, which makes it a fun option if you’re already heading to Tahoe for the weekend.
8. Easter Eggstravaganza, Orange County: Through April 4
Irvine Park Railroad’s Easter Eggstravaganza is a good pick if you want a lot of different activities in 1 place. The event runs daily from March 7 through April 4, with egg hunts, Easter Bunny photo ops, and extra activities throughout the park. Entry to the event area is free, but activity tickets cost extra, and egg hunts can sell out, so arriving early is the smart move.
9. Egg Bowl, Pasadena: April 4
The Egg Bowl at the Rose Bowl is one of the bigger Easter events in Southern California, and it has a nice mix of free and paid options. The main festival runs from 11am-2pm with free egg hunts for kids up to age 12, plus games, arts and crafts, inflatables, and food for purchase. There’s also a separate Bunny Brunch that starts earlier at 8:30am and includes a VIP egg hunt on the field.
10. EGGstravaganza Spring Festival, Carlsbad: April 4
Carlsbad’s EGGstravaganza Spring Festival is a solid option if you want a packed schedule without needing to overthink it. The event includes an ongoing egg scramble from 10:30am-12:30pm, plus face-painting, crafts, cookie decorating, a fun zone, and food for purchase. I like that they also include a noncompetitive area for younger kids, children with special needs, and families who want a more relaxed experience.
11. Annual Eggstavaganza, Banning: April 4
This free event at Repplier Park keeps things easy with egg hunts, bounce houses, food trucks, local vendors, crafts, games, and photos with the Easter Bunny. It runs from 12pm-3pm, and kids can also look out for golden eggs with special prizes. If you’re near the Inland Empire and want something simple and family-friendly, this is a good one to add to your weekend plans.
